The Mayor of Estepona, Jose Maria Garcia Urbano, has been awarded the Third Quality Award of the Spanish Network of Healthy Cities (RECS) in the category of “Promotion of Healthy and Sustainable Urban Development”. The award was given in recognition of the municipal project Estepona, Garden of the Costa del Sol.
Garden of the Costa del Sol
The project Estepona, Garden of the Costa del Sol, was launched in 2017 and is aimed at improving the quality of life of the citizens of Estepona. The project includes initiatives such as the promotion of physical activity, the improvement of public spaces, the promotion of healthy eating, and the promotion of environmental sustainability. Mayor Jose Maria Garcia Urbano expressed his gratitude for the award, saying, “This award is a recognition of the hard work of the entire municipality of Estepona and its citizens. We are proud to be recognized for our efforts to promote healthy and sustainable urban development.”
The Spanish Network of Healthy Cities is an organization that works to promote the health and well-being of citizens in cities and towns throughout Spain. The Quality Award is given to cities that have made significant progress in promoting health and well-being. Estepona is now known as “The Garden of the Costa del Sol” due to the renovation carried out in the centre in which the streets and squares have been decorated with an Andalusian design that is framed by a large amount of flowers.
