  • Manilva is a pearl on the west side of Costa del sol. It is a family-friendly destination with old Andalusian charm. An authentic Spanish town. There are tourism but it is not crowded with toursits like the towns on the east side of Costa del Sol.

    Conveniently close to Marbella, Sotogrande and Gibraltar, Manilva is one of the Costa del Sol’s best kept secrets. The municipality cover four mayor parts: the town of Manilva, Sabinillas, El Castillo and La Duquesa.

    Manilva town is located about 2,5 km from the sea and is a typical white mountain village with small tapas bars and a wine museum.

    Sabinillas is a residencial part at the coast where you can find all kind of service, shops and many restaurants.

    La Duquesa is the most toursistic part with the beautiful marina, Puerto de la Duquesa. The marina is shown every year on the popular english TV-show, A Place in the Sun.

    Castillo de la Duquesa is fishing village were time has stood still and with several seafood restaurants. An old castle and 2000-year-old Roman settlements.

    Climate

    The west side of the Costa Del Sol has more then 300 days of sunshine per year, making it popular among northern Europans.
    A sub-tropical Mediterranean climate, that has hot summers with cooling breezes from the sea and warm winters. Mid temperatures are average 32 ºC during the summer.

    Beaches in Manilva

    Manilva has 6 km of beaches.

    Playa de Punta Chullera and Playa Paraiso
    Beach with beautiful coves surrounded by rocks and low cliffs, of special scenic interest and ecological wealth, waters clean and transparent. Classified as ecological.

    Playa de La Duquesa
    Cheerful and boisterous. equipped with all kinds of services and equipment (showers, bars, restaurants and beach bars). They mark their welcoming presence in this unscathed landscape the Castle fortress and the Duquesa Marina.

    Playa de Sabinillas
    Located in front of the urban area, without a doubt, it is the most popular. It has all the services (showers, booths bathroom, surveillance, restaurants, beach bars, etc). It is distinguished by its quality, with the Blue Flag of the Seas of Europe.

    Playa de El Castillo
    A beach that combines everything. Beach bars to enjoy the gastronomy of good fish, extensive and sandy beaches, rocky for fishing and special corners to enjoy the sun and beach with the family.

    Beach Promenades

    The seafront promenade streches 6 km. Many restaurants are located along the promenade. It´s good for jogging and bicylcling.

    Gatronomy in Manilva

    Most of Manilva's gastronomy is based on the varied Mediterranean diet, where fresh seafood and olive oil is the main ingredient.
    The restaurants in the marina Puerto de la Duquesa are international with food from more or less the whole World. Tapas restaurants and a many restaurants serving spanish food can be found in Sabinillas.

    Golf

    La Duquesa Golf and Country Club has an 18 hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr.
    Manilva is a very good place to stay in for golfers. Within 15 minutes by car, you can reach 14 golf clubs. Some of which are top courses in Europe, like Valderrama, Finca Cortesin, La Reserva Club and Alcaidesa Links and others.

    Culture

    Manilva preserves the history of Roman times and the Moors. An Aqueduct and a Roman Sulphur baths are standing unpretentiously and depicting the history that it left behind several centuries before. Baños de la Hedionda, the Roman baths is open to the public.

    Manilva is the only town on the coast that grows wine. It is a sweet desert wine made from Muscatel grape. Nilva, is a local wine made from grapes. They offer tours and wine tasting in the wine museum.

    Transport and Communications

    Manilva is located about 60 minutes with car from Malaga Airport. Gibraltar Airport is 25 minutes away. Most people rent a car to drive from the airport in Malaga and the airport in Gibraltar.
    Many people rent the car from Brunos Car. They have their office in the marina of La Duquesa and car pick up at the airports. The airport buses goes to Estepona and from there you can either take the local bus or a taxi.
